One day my friend John Rose, the organist at Trinity College, came into the cafeteria after a long recording session.

He looked tired, but vibrant, and was telling about the piece they had been working on.

"The last variation is so exciting: it sounds very Russian…" and he began to hum the melody by Marcel Dupré.
